What happened to the old site?
Hi there.
Those of you who’ve gotten used to visiting Shaking Through over the past five years and change may have noticed that we’ve had some work done. Hopefully, you’ll like the changes we’ve made to the site. For one thing, we’ve pushed to make the Shaking Through experience more interactive, allowing visitors to post their own comments without having to navigate our messy old Forum page. More importantly, though, we’ve expanded our scope a bit, and broadened our reach.
While we will continue to review music, movies, books and comics as we’ve always done, we here at Shaking Through World Headquarters had begun to find the old review-centric format restricting. We didn’t want to be tied down to writing a formal review if we felt the urge to address the subject at hand in another way. And while we had a couple of venues for discussing things outside of those core categories and/or discussing them in a different way (like Clemenza’s Top 10 column, which is still with us, or our Editorials), we felt we could open those up a bit as well. With this more open blog approach, we can explore ideas and comment on the pop-cultural news of the day without trying to shoehorn it into a particular space on the site. We can fire off critiques of TV shows, DVDs, maybe even live music, as well as the Super Bowl or the latest celebrity meltdown, and even list our picks for who we’d like to see in big-budget movie adaptations of our favorite books, if the mood strikes us. And we can do so in a shorter, pithier, more reader-friendly format that lets you more easily pick and choose the things you want to read, and post your own comments as well.
But don’t worry, the old site isn’t going away: We’re too proud of all that content to let it disappear without a trace (and besides, we put an awful lot of time into it). You can find a link to our Shaking Through archives on the new main page, and visit as often as you like. We’ll leave the light on for you.
